When you least expect it, life throws you a curve ball!, May 21, 2015

I love the writings of Sherry Gloag!! She puts a lot of detail and passion in her work. She catches your interest on the first page, explains the issue to be resolved and works out the action that will bring a satisfactory conclusion. Emma and Max have history together. A one night stand leads to a pregnancy that Max thinks is a lie and walks away. Ten years later, their paths cross again and both their worlds are turned upside down. It was so entertaining watching shock and disbelief morph into stunned acceptance. I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Five Stars.

ARC FOR AN HONEST REVIEW
This is a short story about Emma and Max. Emma's friend gets married 10 years ago and then one day her friend finds out her husband has divorced her and remarried. Well Emma has an infinity for dogs. When Emma finds out she is pregnant she lets Max know but he denies it. When he returns ten years later and sees his so he knows he is like him a shifter. But Emma and Shane are unaware of what Shane is. Max hopes to show them both that he was wrong and convince them to move back to the U.S. with him and that he does love them and he made a mistake not stepping up. Does Max convince his family he wants and needs them just as much as they do him? This was a greatly written short story very captivating.

He’s My Husky is a paranormal novella. Emma’s friend Sara is superstitious of Friday the 13th. She may have a reason to be as her husband of 10 years tells her on Friday the 13th that he got a divorce and is remarried. Max flies over to help console Sara. Max happens to be Emma’s one night stand from 10 years and the father of her son. Max didn’t believe Emma until he sees the pictures of his son and then there is no denying the truth. Will Emma handle Max’s secrets? Can they overcome the last 10 years? Will Shane accept Max? There is a lot to resolve in this novella.

Im not very good at writing reviews without giving away spoilers. I will keep this as short as possible. This is the first time that I have read anything by Gloag. I was not disappointed. I am not fond of novellas at all but I was very impressed with this story. It was well written and had strong characters. It was easy to relate to. I look forward to reading more of Gloag's work!

Second chances don’t come along every day. They become even more rare as time passes, so what are the chances one will show up a decade later?
It definitely isn’t easy to be a single mother, but Emma has poured every ounce of her energy into giving her son a happy home. The strong, loving bond that formed between them as a result of her decision to put his needs first shines through every scene. Seeing Emma in this light made me like her even more than I did originally due to how it explains certain decisions that she’s made with his best interests at heart.
The romantic subplot felt rushed due to everything that was revealed about the characters involved in it. While I do think that they would make a good couple in the future, pushing them into a relationship so rapidly didn’t mesh well with everything else I figured out about their personalities, habits, and earlier experiences. Everything else in the plot was evenly paced, but this part of their lives could have benefitted from the inclusion of a few more chapters.
By far my favorite scenes in this tale involve Emma’s descriptions of all of the dogs who have shared her home over the years. Her memories of them help to round out her personality as well as provide a few smiles as she discusses the circumstances that lead each pet to her. Knowing what the lives of her dogs were like before Emma took them added even more nuances to her personality and made me wish I could know everything about that part of her life.
He’s My Husky can easily be read in one sitting. I’d recommend it to anyone who likes science fiction romances that have realistic, contemporary settings. Originally posted at long and short reviews.

Emma hasn't seen her son, Shane's father for ten years. He didn't want anything to do with her when she told him she was pregnant. She's brought up her son on her own so when he comes back into her life, she's not very open to him. Max didn't believe Emma was pregnant with his child or rather didn't want to believe it. He has his very own reasons but when he sees photos of his son, he can't go away. How can he convince Emma to give them another chance? They both have secrets - unusual ones, which only add to the conflict and interest of the book.
This book took me by surprise and had a few unexpected twists and turned which I enjoyed. I loved the characters and the special abilities they had. The story flowed well, was fast moving and kept me hooked. If you're looking for a contemporary romance with a paranormal twist, this is a good short read.

Emma was seeing Max year ago when he left after she told him there was a baby on the way. Now after 10 years he walks back into her life and she finds out about his past while trying to keep her son safe.
I really liked the story line a lot and the character interaction was great from start to finish. The story line flow is very smooth through out the whole story.
This is a very good novella and any paranormal romance book reader would enjoy this in their library.

Ten years ago Max was told by Emma that their one night stand resulted in her getting pregnant. Max refused to believe this. Emma has been raising her son by herself all these years, with the help of Huskies.
Emma from an early age has been able to communicate with dogs. She learned early on not to tell anyone. Emma needs to find another Husky it has been six mnths and she has a bad feeling that she needs to hurry and find her son another Guardian.
Max enters picture and there is no denying that Shane is his son. Max needs to do a lot of explaining on why ten years ago and now. Max is more than he seems. Emma will need a very open mind.
This was a nice book. Curling up on a rainy day sipping tea and reading. The story line was very different but in a good way.

Well! That was a most magical story - I LOVED it!
The writing was poignant and at a good pace so the drama of the story felt natural. Also a really good length. And all the characters were believable and the emotions came across. It was a total pleasure to read.
The Friday the 13th element made me think it might be a horror rather than fantasy story. If you'd made the ceremonial day something more in line with mysticism, maybe a Medieval day of rest, or a full-moon day or something, then it would have possibly fit better. It could be because I grew up in Canada where Friday 13th is a major day of paranoia, and as a result a lot of horror films are focused on it (serial killers etc). So it resonates with me in a horror associated way. Not sure if that's just me though.
Otherwise, I loved reading it. Kept going back to it over the course of the evening and morning. So thank you!
